I was sitting at my desk looking over next year’s budget which had just been trimmed from the previous year’s number. The company was investing in product development and pulling some resources away from marketing. During this rebuild time I was challenged to make as much of a market impact as before, but with lesser resources (let’s be real, they wanted MORE than before with less).
My email and phone started lighting up because my big fat-and-happy marketing automation vendor was reaching out to sink their teeth into my budget for another juicy meal. You know, it’s funny…my account manager was dependably silent 9 months of the year. Silent when I had unresolved tickets, unresolved integration issues, and poor service. They did nothing to help, but when it was time to approach the trough for renewal time they all of the sudden were listening and responsive. Fair weather fans. Pssssshhh.
I immediately started looking for other options. I researched the other “big guys” in the marketing automation industry but I found the same themes: high costs for the application itself, massive setup and migration fees, hard to use interfaces, and customers finding it hard to get good service outside of opening a support ticket or shelling out big $$$ for consulting.
So the big guys weren’t doing it for me. I started looking down market at the traditional email blasting services. You know these brands well, they bring email campaign capabilities at a lowish cost and are trying in some ways to compete with more robust automation platforms. They just didn’t have a complete story – like those more mature marketing automation platforms did. They could email, could throw a form out there, but where was the robust cross-channel tracking, the personalization, logic-based campaigns, and the reporting?! They couldn’t compete with where I needed them to be.
I started to see that there is a real gap in the marketing automation marketplace. So I set out to construct a business centered around a scalable cloud-delivered platform that provides reliable and user-friendly open source marketing automation. I wanted to provide an open and inexpensive platform that didn’t leave marketers (or non-marketers) hung out to dry. After many months of design, development, testing, and beta users I’m happy to announce a new player in the market.
We are excited to be launching the one-of-a-kind, turnkey, cloud-hosted marketing automation platform that is:
